Two of the most emblematic figures of this struggle were Tellos Agras (real name: Sarantos Agapinos) and Antonis Mingas, who fought with unmatched courage for the Hellenic identity of Macedonia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their Actions in Western and Central Macedonia<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tellos Agras, an officer of the Greek army, was born in Gargalianoi, Messinia, in 1880. By personal choice, he left the security of his military career and assumed command of a guerrilla unit in the swamps of Giannitsa \u2014 the most perilous and inaccessible area at the time. He organized Greek resistance groups against the Bulgarian komitadjis, collaborated with the Ecumenical Patriarchate and local patriots, and successfully established a Greek presence in the broader region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Antonis Mingas, from Naoussa, was a close associate of Agras, playing a vital role in identifying Bulgarian agents and promoting Greek education in Exarchist villages. Together, they coordinated operations against the komitadjis who sought to forcibly “Bulgarize” the local population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their Final Mission and Betrayal<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 1907, following several key victories against Bulgarian bands, Agras and Mingas decided to visit the region of Karidia (then Tetovo) in Pella to negotiate a temporary ceasefire with local komitadjis, hoping to end the bloodshed in the Giannitsa villages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, they fell victim to betrayal. The Bulgarian komitadji Josef Kasaptche, infamous for his cruelty, received the two men under false assurances of safety, disarmed them, and paraded them in humiliation through pro-Bulgarian (Exarchist) villages, provoking fear and disgust among the population. The public disgrace aimed to demoralize local Greeks and depict the Macedonian fighters as defeated invaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their Martyrdom<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At dawn on June 7, 1907, between the villages of Karidia (Tetovo) and Agras (then Vladovo), the two heroes were hanged by the komitadjis on Kasaptche\u2019s orders. Their bodies were left on display as a warning, to terrorize the local Greek communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their deaths shocked Greek society and further ignited the struggle. They became symbols of sacrifice and national devotion. Following the martyrdom of Pavlos Melas, Agras and Mingas carried the torch of freedom and resistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their Legacy<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, a monument in their honor stands between the villages of Karidia and Agras in Pella, marking the place of their execution. An annual memorial service is held there, attended by local and national officials. Their sacrifice remains vivid in the collective memory of Hellenism as a supreme example of bravery and patriotism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Les H\u00e9ros de la Lutte Mac\u00e9donienne : Tellos Agras et Antonis Mingas<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le komitadji bulgare Josef Kasaptche, connu pour sa cruaut\u00e9, les re\u00e7ut en leur promettant la s\u00e9curit\u00e9, les d\u00e9sarma, puis les humilia publiquement dans les villages pro-bulgares (exarchistes), provoquant la panique et l\u2019indignation.
