On September 5, the 79th session of the UN General Assembly adopted with overwhelming support the resolution on Cooperation Between the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
The resolution, introduced by China, was co-sponsored by nearly 40 countries, including India and all other SCO member states.
The resolution highly commends the constructive role of the SCO in promoting regional peace, development, mutual trust, and cooperation.
It speaks highly of the SCO’s efforts in supporting the work of the United Nations and expresses support for strengthened dialogue and collaboration between the UN system and the SCO. The resolution welcomes China, as the rotating chair of the SCO, for hosting the Tianjin Summit from August 31 to September 1, 2025, and issuing the Tianjin Declaration. It also welcomes the SCO member states’ initiatives to hold a series of activities marking the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations and the victory of World War II.
