Sykes-Picot Agreement¹

Two men. One map. One afternoon. That is how the Middle East was promised to three different groups.

1915-16: Hussein-McMahon Correspondence → Britain promises Sharif Hussein an independent Arab state (including Palestine) if Arabs revolt against Ottomans.

1916: Sykes-Picot Agreement → A secret British-French deal carves up the region into spheres of influence, ditching Arab independence promises.

1917: Balfour Declaration → Britain expresses ‘sympathy with Jewish Zionist aspirations’ and pledges a ‘national home for the Jewish people (Zionism)’ in Palestine—backing the Zionist movement’s goals while sidelining the Arab majority.

See? Three separate proposal docs, one land, and one massive contradiction. The man who drew the borderlines—he later called it ‘the great swindle.’ He also died before he could see the division happen.

I’m sticking with the original promise made to Abraham. (Genesis 12, 15, 17 and Galatians 3:6-9, 29) Which one are you going with?
